An elevation of privilege vulnerability exists in the Windows Installer when MSI packages process symbolic links, aka 'Windows Installer Elevation of Privilege Vulnerability'. This CVE ID is unique from CVE-2020-0798, CVE-2020-0814, CVE-2020-0842, CVE-2020-0843.
CVE-2019-3567 1 Linuxfoundation 1 Osquery 2020-03-06 9.3 HIGH 8.1 HIGH
In some configurations an attacker can inject a new executable path into the extensions.load file for osquery and hard link a parent folder of a malicious binary to a folder with known 'safe' permissions. Under those circumstances osquery will load said malicious executable with SYSTEM permissions. The solution is to migrate installations to the 'Program Files' directory on Windows which restricts unprivileged write access. This issue affects osquery prior to v3.4.0.
CVE-2020-3835 1 Apple 1 Mac Os X 2020-03-03 3.6 LOW 4.4 MEDIUM
A validation issue existed in the handling of symlinks. This issue was addressed with improved validation of symlinks. This issue is fixed in macOS Catalina 10.15.3. A malicious application may be able to access restricted files.
CVE-2020-3830 1 Apple 1 Mac Os X 2020-03-02 3.6 LOW 3.3 LOW
A validation issue existed in the handling of symlinks. This issue was addressed with improved validation of symlinks. This issue is fixed in macOS Catalina 10.15.3. A malicious application may be able to overwrite arbitrary files.
CVE-2016-10374 1 Perltidy Project 1 Perltidy 2020-03-02 2.1 LOW 5.5 MEDIUM
perltidy through 20160302, as used by perlcritic, check-all-the-things, and other software, relies on the current working directory for certain output files and does not have a symlink-attack protection mechanism, which allows local users to overwrite arbitrary files by creating a symlink, as demonstrated by creating a perltidy.ERR symlink that the victim cannot delete.
CVE-2011-0702 1 Feh Project 1 Feh 2020-02-27 3.3 LOW N/A
The feh_unique_filename function in utils.c in feh before 1.11.2 might allow local users to overwrite arbitrary files via a symlink attack on a /tmp/feh_ temporary file.
CVE-2011-1031 1 Feh Project 1 Feh 2020-02-27 3.3 LOW N/A
The feh_unique_filename function in utils.c in feh 1.11.2 and earlier might allow local users to create arbitrary files via a symlink attack on a /tmp/feh_ temporary file, a different vulnerability than CVE-2011-0702.
CVE-2020-8950 2 Amd, Microsoft 2 User Experience Program, Windows 2020-02-19 7.2 HIGH 7.8 HIGH
The AUEPLauncher service in Radeon AMD User Experience Program Launcher through 1.0.0.1 on Windows allows elevation of privilege by placing a crafted file in %PROGRAMDATA%\AMD\PPC\upload and then creating a symbolic link in %PROGRAMDATA%\AMD\PPC\temp that points to an arbitrary folder with an arbitrary file name.
CVE-2020-0730 1 Microsoft 8 Windows 10, Windows 7, Windows 8.1 and 5 more 2020-02-14 3.6 LOW 7.1 HIGH
An elevation of privilege vulnerability exists when the Windows User Profile Service (ProfSvc) improperly handles symlinks, aka 'Windows User Profile Service Elevation of Privilege Vulnerability'.
CVE-2019-11481 2 Apport Project, Canonical 2 Apport, Ubuntu Linux 2020-02-12 6.1 MEDIUM 7.8 HIGH
Kevin Backhouse discovered that apport would read a user-supplied configuration file with elevated privileges. By replacing the file with a symbolic link, a user could get apport to read any file on the system as root, with unknown consequences.
CVE-2019-1002101 2 Kubernetes, Redhat 2 Kubernetes, Openshift Container Platform 2020-02-10 5.8 MEDIUM 5.5 MEDIUM
The kubectl cp command allows copying files between containers and the user machine. To copy files from a container, Kubernetes creates a tar inside the container, copies it over the network, and kubectl unpacks it on the user’s machine. If the tar binary in the container is malicious, it could run any code and output unexpected, malicious results. An attacker could use this to write files to any path on the user’s machine when kubectl cp is called, limited only by the system permissions of the local user. The untar function can both create and follow symbolic links. The issue is resolved in kubectl v1.11.9, v1.12.7, v1.13.5, and v1.14.0.
CVE-2019-10773 1 Yarnpkg 1 Yarn 2020-02-07 6.8 MEDIUM 7.8 HIGH
In Yarn before 1.21.1, the package install functionality can be abused to generate arbitrary symlinks on the host filesystem by using specially crafted "bin" keys. Existing files could be overwritten depending on the current user permission set.
CVE-2012-6114 1 Git-extras Project 1 Git-extras 2020-02-07 3.6 LOW 5.5 MEDIUM
The git-changelog utility in git-extras 1.7.0 allows local users to overwrite arbitrary files via a symlink attack on (1) /tmp/changelog or (2) /tmp/.git-effort.
CVE-2019-11251 1 Kubernetes 1 Kubernetes 2020-02-06 4.3 MEDIUM 5.7 MEDIUM
The Kubernetes kubectl cp command in versions 1.1-1.12, and versions prior to 1.13.11, 1.14.7, and 1.15.4 allows a combination of two symlinks provided by tar output of a malicious container to place a file outside of the destination directory specified in the kubectl cp invocation. This could be used to allow an attacker to place a nefarious file using a symlink, outside of the destination tree.
CVE-2011-4116 1 Cpan 1 File\ 2020-02-05 5.0 MEDIUM 7.5 HIGH
_is_safe in the File::Temp module for Perl does not properly handle symlinks.
